-The third annual United Cerebral Palsy Nassau (UCPN) “Polar Bear – Break the Ice Swim” recently took place at Theodore Roosevelt Park in Oyster Bay.
-All proceeds from the event benefit UCPN. With this year’s event, the funds raised through the polar bear swims have approached $100,000.
-Though the brisk winds made for a colder day than most thought, hundreds of people came to participate or to cheer on the swimmers from shore.
-The honorary co-chairs of the event were John Venditto, supervisor of the Town of Oyster Bay, and Assemblyperson Harvey Weisenberg (D-Dist 20), who was one of the first to charge into the water. A DJ and a dancing polar bear were on hand for entertainment.
